  8. breaking through ranks of infantry. Both
  9. sides suffered heavy losses but the death of
  10. Harold allowed William to conquer and become
  11. England's king. Having defeated an attempt by
  12. King Harald Hardreda of Norway at Stamford
  13. Bridge, Harold moved south with an army of
  14. 9,000 to counter the landing of the duke of
  15. Normandy at Pevensey Bay, Kent.
